Vetra Research

Follow the patient, not just the visit.

Longitudinal, lab-linked veterinary records, captured through everyday clinic work, for teams studying, treating and testing for disease in animals.

The gap

Animal health runs short on real-world evidence.

Most veterinary records are free text, split across practice systems that don't talk to each other. The history a researcher needs, meaning which drug, what dose, which labs and what happened next, exists, but not in a form anyone can query.

The result is familiar to anyone in this field. Trial sites struggle to find eligible patients. Safety monitoring leans on what people remember to report. Biomarker work starts from small, expensive, purpose-built cohorts. And the patient's story across years and clinics is almost never seen in one place.

How the record is built

Captured as a side effect of care.

Vetra runs clinic operations: calls, triage, booking, records, refills and follow-ups. It works on top of the practice software clinics already use. Each task leaves a structured entry behind, so the record grows without asking anyone to do extra data entry.

  1. Capture

    From the workflow

Calls, visit notes, prescriptions and lab results enter as the clinic works, plus the practice's historical records.

  2. Structure

    Into a timeline

Free text becomes coded entities: signs, diagnoses, drugs and doses, lab values, procedures, referrals and outcomes.

  3. Enrich

    With biology

Through our lab network, consented samples can be linked to the same timeline, including samples taken before a diagnosis.

What's in a record

One timeline per patient.

DomainExamples
SignalmentSpecies, breed, age, sex and neuter status, weight over time
Clinical signsOwner-reported and exam findings, with dates
DiagnosesWorking and confirmed diagnoses, mapped to standard terms
MedicationsDrug, dose, route, frequency, start and stop dates
LabsChemistry, CBC, urinalysis and other results, as values over time
Imaging & proceduresStudies performed, findings, surgeries
CommunicationsCalls and follow-ups, including symptoms reported between visits
OutcomesRechecks, referrals, adverse events, euthanasia and cause of death where recorded

Questions you can finally ask.

Cohort discovery

Describe the patients you need in plain language and see who fits, across clinics, with full histories.

Pharma · Academia · Nutrition

Trial feasibility & recruitment

Size a protocol against real patients, then work with participating clinics to identify candidates.

Pharma · CROs

Real-world evidence & safety

Follow what happens after a drug starts, including symptoms owners mention by phone between visits.

Pharma · Regulatory teams

Biomarker discovery

Look for patterns in routine lab values that come before a diagnosis, across breeds and ages.

Diagnostics · Academia

Prospective samples

Request consented samples from patients whose histories match your study, collected before, during or after onset.

Comparative medicine

Study diseases dogs and people share, in a species where they progress on a shorter timeline.

Human health research
Dogs 7 and older, SDMA rising but in range, later diagnosed with CKD
Example output (illustrative): a patient table with each dog's lab trend, medications and months from first rise to diagnosis, which you can export for review.
Governance

The clinic's data stays the clinic's.

  • Opt-in, clinic by clinicRecords are used beyond the practice only when the clinic agrees, under a written data agreement.
  • De-identified by defaultOwner and clinic identifiers are removed before any record is used for research.
  • Owner consent for samplesNo sample is banked or shared without the pet owner's consent.
  • Clinics share in the valueParticipating practices receive a share of what their data earns.
  • Every access loggedWho queried what, and when, is recorded and reviewable.
  • No clinical decisionsVetra doesn't diagnose or prescribe. Findings go to vets and researchers to act on.
Where we are

Early, and honest about it.

We're building the research layer now, alongside clinics already running on Vetra. We're looking for a small number of design partners to help decide what gets built first.

  • LiveClinic operations agents, writing structured records back to practice software
  • LiveHospital partnerships in India
  • BuildingLongitudinal patient timelines and natural-language cohort search
  • BuildingLab hub and at-home testing kits, from our wet lab in the Biopunk cohort
